Why is there no push for higher education in the youth of the United States? I am a senior and I am always hearing storyies about kid not making it in college. Is it becaues the teachers are not preaing there students for college like they should or is it that kids are just lazy? I read this artical about What makes kids drop out of college by Elizabeth Gehrman writter for the Harvard Gazette. In it she had taked with university officacl Melissa Roderick and Bridget Terry Long an associate professor of education and economics at the Graduate School of Education (HGSE). In the artical it taked that most kids are just not ready. Either cause of he enviroment or the wrok load. There was a study done in Chicago on what percent of kids that graduate high school gradaute college. The resukts blew my mind. "Of the 80 percent of freshmen who walk into Chicago public schools and hope to complete a four-year degree," Roderick continued, "we would expect that about 6.5 percent, unless something changes dramatically, will be able to attain that degree by their mid-20s." Either students need to go to some sort of prep school to get them more ready for the college enviorment or teachers need to make kids work harder. I personal belive that most kids can not do the work unless they are pushed by a pearent they simply can not stay on track they have to much time. Teachers are preaing kids the best they can for college if the student wants to learn.
